Soil Surveys

The Standards Institution of Israel's soil survey services include performing soil surveys for you in the early project stages, to describe the soil and different parameters per the demands of the soil consultants and project designers.

The special laboratory possesses state-of-the-art equipment to provide the following services:

  • Field and laboratory geotechnical tests for early and detailed planning for the design and construction of roads, tunnels, bridges, and buildings
  • Sonic and ultrasonic piling quality tests
  • Services for measuring moisture/dampness properties in substrates beneath the flooring

Below is precise information about the kinds of tests and their importance in the construction process

  • Soil survey-geotechnical tests

1. Field tests

1.1  Geological supervision of tests drilling and test boreholes
      1.2    Pressuremeter test (PMT)
      1.3    Water permeability test
1.4  Dynamic Cone Penetration (DCP) test

2. Laboratory tests

2.1  Indicative tests (support limits, moisture, washing and rating, free expansion, sand equivalent value)
      2.2    Consolidation
2.3    Expansion rate and expansion pressure
2.4    Standard Test Method for Measurement of Collapse Potential of Soils
      2.6    Spatial shearing
      2.7    Direct shearing
2.8    Unconfined Compressive Strength of Cohesive Soil
      2.9    Laboratory water permeability
2.10    California Bearing Ratio (CBR) test
2.11   Soil compacting in the laboratory
2.12   Compressive strength and elastic modules of intact rock core specimens and Pauson coefficient, spatial shearing
in the Hoek Triaxial Cell (HTC), point load strength index of rock and application to rock strength classifications,
Brazilian test of rock, test method for laboratory determination of pulse velocities ultrasonic of rock
2.13  Soil chemistry tests (aggressiveness, carbonate, etc.)
    2.14  Electrical resistance tests

  • Sonic/ultrasonic piling quality tests
This test is performed to test the continuity of the concrete inside the piling and measure the length of the piling pursuant to the American standard.
  • Post-flood moisture beneath the floor test
What is the importance of a post-flood dampness test?
It is reasonable to assume that water pipe damage the infrastructures beneath the flooring will also get wet in a flood. If there is flooding on the floor and there is a quantity of standing water, it is recommended to test the dampness, because the water is liable to seep into the infrastructure and sand. If you have had a flood, contact us and we'll send an expert from the Standards Institution of Israel to perform tests with advanced and high-quality equipment.
There are two kinds of dampness tests:
    1.  Dampness/moisture test in the sand infrastructure and/or fine gravel, after taking a sample from the customer's home.
The test provides accurate data from the sample which is acceptable in court and insurance filings.
    2.  Protimeter dampness test, which does not provide accurate data and is not acceptable in court. Furthermore, a protimeter is not designed to test the dampness of the sand, but only a fine gravel layer beneath the floor. It is only designed to provide indicative results.

Length of the test
A dampness test performed by a Standards Institution of Israel trained and certified employee.
The test takes about 30 minutes at the customer's home.
The findings may be obtained about 72 work hours from the time of the test.
