Natural Gas

The Natural Gas Unit at the Standards Institution of Israel, servings the inspection body that considers itself as a partner that helps factories convert, install, and test the necessary systems, while ensuring safe and efficient use of natural gas at plants' inner systems and end-installations are pursuant to the provisions of the law.

The Standards Institution of Israel, as the inspection body, performs supervision and tests pursuant to Israeli Standard 6464 and the standards derived from it. The Standards Institution is also accredited to perform tests as a technical expert, if required.

The end-consumer tests emphasize compliance of natural gas systems, from the main isolating valve installed upstream from all the other components to the exit duct of the end-consumer's natural gas installation, burning systems and their compatibility to the burning chamber and type of installation, compatibility of the burner for natural gas use, the emissions systems, etc., and compatibility to the plant environment (ventilation, spark-free areas, distances, etc.) for natural gas use.

The scope of work of the Natural Gas Department at the Standards Institution of Israel concerns the following:

  • End-consumer tests: steam generators (water tubes, fire tubes), thermal oil boilers, thermal oxidizer, ovens, etc. pursuant to Israeli Standard SI 6464, Parts 4-6
  • Gas turbine tests, (gas-powered) cogeneration systems, pursuant to the Guidelines for the Approval of Natural Gas Appliance Installations
  • Tests of internal plant pipes pursuant to Israeli Standard SI 6464, Part 7.
  • Tests of compressed natural gas (CNG) decompression terminals pursuant to Israeli Standard SI 6490
  • Tests of CNG fueling stations pursuant to Israeli Standard SI 6236
  • Tests of natural gas-powered vehicles maintenance stations pursuant to Israeli Standard SI 6293
  • Tests of waste treatment plants (biogas) pursuant to ANSI B149.6
