ISO 50001: Energy management

SI ISO 50001: Energy management enables an organization to manage its energy consumption in a sophisticated way with the objective of reducing consumption and improving its energy performance, while meeting the needs of all the organization's energy consumers.

In 2018, the Standards Institution of Israel, which had recently adopted ISO 50001: Energy management as the Israeli Standard, was revised as ISO 50001: 2019: Energy management systems. Approved organizations were given a three-year grace period, until 21 August 2021.

It is possible to obtain certification under the old version of the standard until 21 February 2020.

The main changes are:

The Standards Institution of Israel has prepared a checklist for customers, pursuant to the specifications of the revised standard, both for the purpose of obtaining new certification and for upgrading.

Energy management is an integral part of managing an organization's operating system. For this reason, energy should be reflected in the planning stage and later in regular management. Maintaining a high level energy utilization by energy consumers, through smart management, will immediately reduce major consumers' regular consumption and save the organization money.

Advantages of using the energy management standard:

SI 50001: Energy management applies to small and large organizations. Integration can be integrated with every other management standard; it is particularly desirable to integrate it SI ISO 14001: Environmental management, SI OHSAS 18001: Occupational health and safety, and SI ISO 45001: Occupational health and safety.

The road to certification

SI ISO 50001 certification follows the successful implementation of the requirements of the standard, followed by an evaluation of the organization's energy management system by independent auditors of the Standards Institution of Israel. To start this process, it is recommended to purchase the standard at the Standards Institution of Israel Information Center, study the requirements, participate in appropriate training, and consider the process as an opportunity for improvement via the organization team which will receive management commitment and involvement

It is also possible to consult with the quality management experts and undergo an audit by Standards Institution of Israel to check for shortcomings.
