"Safe Kindergarten" Initiative

The Standards Institute of Israel developed the "Safe Kindergarten" Initiative – a new normalcy test specification to allow your children to stay in a convenient and safe environment. You, the parents, can always check whether your child's kindergarten is a safe one if you just ask to see the certificate issued by the Institute's engineers.

To reduce the chance that your child will be hurt in the kindergarten and its yard, the Institute developed a unique safety test specification, adjusted for the common hazards in the kindergarten surroundings.

The specification is comprised of requirements by Israeli and international standards in a variety of fields such as trapping the head, neck, and fingers, suffocation hazards, the location and rigidity of yard installations, and safety of toys, beds, and chairs, building safety, and more. The equipment safety tests are conducted in the chemistry and textile laboratory in the Standards institute.

The specification includes, amongst others, sections from the following standards:

SI 562, toys safety
SI 682 beds and folding beds
SI 1048 Carriable cradles and babies' stands
SI 14988 Children's chairs
SI 1273 Babies' walkers
SI 14036 Bouncers
SI 6250 Classification of a safe house for children

The examination is adapted for equipment located in the kindergarten and is conducted once a year, for one day, by the Institute's experienced and skilled engineers in the field of toys. After the examination's conclusion, the kindergarten will receive a report listing its installations, the examination's results, and conclusions. If the determination regarding a certain structure is found to be negative, repair of the defect will be required to receive a positive test result. The test documents and all the photographed materials are kept in confidence in the laboratory.
A certificate will be issued for the kindergarten to be displayed in the kindergarten. The certificate states that the Standard Institute's specialists examined the content in the kindergarten and that it was found to be safe for use and free of immediate hazards. An appendix will be enclosed to the certificate listing the equipment details on the inspection date.

Together we will maintain a safe and protected environment for the children!
