N.D.T – Non Destructive Tests

Non-Destructive Tests (NDT) is a general name for tests performed by special equipment that identifies and checks different elements without damaging them at all or only causing negligible damage in a way that will not affect the functioning of the tested elements.

In the past, non-destructive tests were only performed on aircraft, but, in recent years, they have become increasing widespread in the construction industry. Contractors, planners, and supervisors are aware of the advantages in performing these tests and use them to obtain precise and rapid results to ensure building quality.

The Standards Institution of Israel performs a range of non-destructive tests for concrete and steel elements for roads and pavements.

Common tests

  • Structural survey for National Outline Plan 38 – Earthquake retrofitting: survey of the construction elements to obtain information for the designer for further modeling and design for building additions or a new building
  • Pal-Kal ceilings: compliance test for the CEO circular and Laboratory Accreditation Authority for existing Pal-Kal ceilings, supervised by a licensed engineer
  • Leak location and identification
  • Concrete surface hardness
  • Rebar location and identification in concrete elements
  • Welding quality
  • Galvanization thickness
  • Ground penetrating radar
  • Load tests
  • Substrate strata thickness
