SI ISO/IEC 90003: 2018: Software engineering — Guidelines for the application of ISO 9001:2015 to computer software
SI ISO/IEC 90003: 2018: Software engineering is a guideline for organizations to apply ISO 9001: Quality management systems to computer software. It is applicable to software houses or organizations whose products include software for the purchase, supply, development, operation, and maintenance of software.
The standard supplements all the requirements of IS 9001 with interpretations and examples for each of the requirements, so that software developers or integrators can understand the software development and maintenance requirements in a familiar language – life cycle, configuration management, coding, release, and so forth.
The standard does not depend on the life cycle model or technology and tools, but on applicable guidelines for implementation by any organization irrespective of size or complexity. The main emphases, examples, and interpretations are give in Chapter 7 of the standard – Product realization.
The standard links different activities to common software engineering standards, such as SI ISO/IEC 12207: Systems and software engineering – Software life cycle processes, but it does not require the life cycle model recommended that standard, and to ISO standards on software metrics and models, such as Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI), applied in ISO/IEC 33001:2015 Information technology – Process assessment – Concepts and terminology
This standard also includes a detailed dictionary of terms, which software organizations can use to understand software development and maintenance terms.
The standard is not a stand-alone certification standard, but has become a norm in the Israeli software industry, and appears as a condition in software supply tenders and checks of software developer suppliers by their customers.
